Here is what people are saying about John Cosby:

I have been taking John Cosby’s online course for about 8 weeks and i highly recommend it.  John’s teaching is clear and precise.  He has helped me organize and bring my paintings to a new level.  I have taken several online courses but this is the most in depth and helpful course that I have ever experienced.  The instructional videos are high quality and invaluable.

If you are considering enrolling in John Cosby's online course, my advice to you is, "Do It!" I have taken course work from John in several formats. None have been more powerful than the online option. We all know that John is a brilliant artist, a skilled teacher, and a fine and funny human being. He devotes incredible energy, focus, and dedication to both his own craft and to the growth of his students. His ability to diagnose another's work and provide specific, well timed instruction is truly remarkable. He has developed hugely effective materials, tutorials, slide shows, and demonstrations to supplement his instruction. He is quick to respond to every request. All of these attributes are present in the online experience. I have learned immensely from John and never more so than during our online work. He is and his online offerings are a treasure.

I just wanted to take some time to express how much I enjoyed being in your class this past term and to thank you for what has been a very enriching, creative class. You truly are a standout teacher because of your incredible knowledge and sheer dedication to your students.
I so appreciate your patient tutoring with all the technical aspects of online learning. Everything was clear, understandable and easy. I also loved all the wonderful youtube videos. Having the videos as a supplement was so great because being able to replay and stop them to make notes made a huge difference in learning. Your thoughtful, kind, powerful critiques have definitely made me a better artist.
Thank you for always going the extra mile as a teacher. I so appreciate it.

I just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with your transition from in-person to online mentoring.  At first, I was concerned that the hands-on approach you took in your in-studio could not be reproduced online, but I could not have been more wrong.  Having participated in your new mentoring sessions, I am convinced now that the online process retains your masterful and personal tutelage while offering novel ways for me to improve.
The videos series and accompanying exercises offer a highly structured and engaging format covering both conceptual issues like design and composition and practical approaches like demonstrating the use of shadow and light. The accompanying exercises and your evaluation of the resulting paintings come together for me in a way that is far more powerful than even the in-studio demonstrations and easel-based advice do.
You still focus your skilled painter eye and your insightful analytical mind on my work noting the aspects of my paintings that are achieving the goals of the exercises; however, then, you carefully go through areas where the outcome of my work could be improved and demonstrate this on my painting—not by painting directly on it the way you did often during the in-studio sessions, but by ‘painting’ electronically over it as I watch on a shared screen. I, then, must go back to the easel and wrestle with making those changes myself. This personal engagement is the key to long-term learning and is facilitated by the online sessions in a far more powerful way than even the in-studio interactions are.
Thank you so much for making lemonade out of this lemon of a situation by creating new ways to help us paint with purpose and excitement!
Bob
